Abram-Louis Breguet, the founder of Breguet, has been described to this day as "the Leonardo da Vinci of the watchmaking world" and "hastened the evolution of watchmaking by 200 years. Born and raised in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, Breguet left his hometown as a teenager to train as a watchmaker in Versailles and Paris. 1775, with the help of the abbot Joseph-François Marie, he founded a watchmaking workshop on the Île de la Cité in Paris. The "split-seconds chronograph," a prototype of the modern chronograph, is equipped with a revolutionary movement incorporating a mechanism that allows the two independent seconds hands to be controlled separately at the touch of a button.
