Imitation diamonds and beryl
transparent beryl has a high refractive index and its luster is similar to diamonds, so it was once used as a “substitute for diamonds” and “imitation diamonds”. There is also a false name (Note 1) called “Rhinestone” (Note 2).
Note 1: False name: Refers to the wrong name, deliberately using similar appearance and higher value gemstones to choose another name, in order to confuse consumers. But sometimes it is also used as a generic term to mean comparable to high-priced gems. (For example: Herkimon Crystal = Shining Diamond)
Note 2: Rhinestone: In addition to transparent beryl, this name is also used to refer to rhinestone made of glass or acrylic resin.
In the beryl family, beryl belongs to the type with lesser inclusions. Since rough stones with less inclusions and high transparency are very rare, they are extremely valuable, and can be imagined as a substitute for diamonds from the early days. The well-cut transparent beryl has a dazzling luster, and because large rough stones can be found from time to time, there are various types of fancy-cut transparent beryl on the market.
White beryl and phantom transparent beryl
Almost all the rough beryl stones have a blue or pink color (emerald, aquamarine, morganite and other gemstone colors), so the purely colorless and transparent beryl is also called White Beryl, which is rare. On the other hand, transparent beryl with other colors or inclusions is called “phantom transparent beryl” in the field of energy stones. The energy of the inclusions is condensed in the gemstone and new value is derived.
Transparent Beryl as an energy stone
It is said that beryl is a kind of energy stone that can make people firm their beliefs and emerge wisdom to move in the right direction. When people have goals or dreams and are determined to move forward bravely, beryl will help them. In addition to this, beryl is said to also be good for nourishment.
